Brave Huck Review: I've become a different person, and I've also become stronger

Brave Huck is a domestically produced action game on the Galactic Demon City platform, featuring a wasteland style. Its English name is simply "HAAK", which means the Chinese name specifically emphasizes the protagonist's "brave" qualities.

So where exactly is the "bravery" of the protagonist "Huck" wearing a black hood and a blue cape? Coincidentally, after two years of preemptive experience, the official PC version of the game was released globally by OKJOY on August 25th. With curiosity, I embarked on this journey of exploring wasteland.

The Five Ren Mooncakes are Life

Last year's Shadow Torch City portrayed a unique old Shanghai with a diesel punk artistic style, leaving a deep impression on many players. Nowadays, Brave Huck also uses down-to-earth Chinese elements to present a distinctive wasteland world under an elevated worldview.

In addition to red lanterns hanging crookedly on the street, there are also billboards hanging slantingly, with prominent words such as "yoga club" and "second-hand market" written on them. In front of the tea restaurant, there are two stone lions, and the main menu inside is the mysterious "chopped pepper razor clam burger".

In the game, there is a quite dramatic plot that unfolds: the protagonist asks the restaurant owner to obtain some key information, but the owner, with the idea that "an authentic tea restaurant cannot do without Yangzhi Ganlu," makes a deal and asks the protagonist to go to the enemy's base to steal the recipe.

Perhaps due to cost constraints, there are not many voiceovers for characters in the game, but occasionally hearing NPCs popping out three or two dialects from all over the country, one still feels surprised and friendly.

The collection elements in the game are also filled with Chinese element Easter eggs. Do you know what the life of the protagonist "Huck" is made up of? It's a five kernel mooncake! (Collecting Five Kernel Mooncakes can increase maximum health)

You can collect this old-fashioned style of newspaper in the levels

Such details are scattered throughout the city and levels, and accidentally discovering a poster or finding a collection item naturally triggers a knowing smile.

Goodbye, all the bouncing cotton

Brave exploration of wasteland and dangerous areas

Galactic Devil City games now have many sub areas, such as those that focus on platform jumping and those that focus on action combat. The gaming experience of Brave Huck leans more towards the former, as it can be seen that it has learned from many excellent predecessors and combined its own game characteristics to form its own style.

In the early stages of the game, Huck was unarmed and could only flee in a panic when facing wild dogs. He was also talking to others and was quick and didn't need weapons. "This can't be called bravery," similar jokes inevitably surfaced.

can't afford it

As the exploration progresses, the protagonist naturally learns various displacement skills. Although most of them are relatively traditional, such as sprinting, up charging, down smashing, grappling, paragliding, etc., combined with decent level design (the teleportation in the map actually relies on the toilet for teleportation! This full screen smell!), and the production team's adjustment of the character's smooth movements, it can still bring a tense and exciting experience of passing levels.

In the early stages of the game, a chase battle was arranged that required the use of multiple skills such as hooks and claws

After learning new abilities, return to the previous level to rediscover the map and accept the challenge of the production team to find various hidden channels, which is also the unique charm of Galactic Demon City games.

During the exploration process, there will also be some puzzle solving steps. It doesn't matter if you can't solve the puzzle, there will be off-site assistance to directly tell Huck the answer, which is very friendly.

Every time I feel like I have almost touched this area, as soon as I open the map, the high completion rate in the upper left corner reminds me that there are still many unexplored rooms waiting for me, and from time to time, I feel like "there's nowhere else to explore" and "I'm surprised that this road can go smoothly".

However, this kind of exclamation is limited to the maps of a single level, and the maps in the game are not adjacent to each other like many similar games, but presented separately in the form of level areas.

To be honest, doing so has indeed reduced some surprises and won't create the surprise of "I'll go, these areas are connected to each other", but it can also be considered as reducing the difficulty of game design. The production team can focus more energy on polishing individual levels.

As for the battles in the game, I personally feel that the fun aspect is not as good as the exploration aspect.

On the one hand, Huck's attack methods are somewhat monotonous. In the early stages, they were mostly flat slashes, while in the later stages, with more skills, they could jump up and down, move around and chop horizontally. Hooks and claws are more often just weapons with longer attack distances, which does not have much impact on the combat experience. On the other hand, there are fewer types of enemies, and the experience of several boss battles is still good, but there is also a problem of limited quantity.

Playing BOSS requires the active use of various skills learned

If you are worried that you may not be able to handle it with your hands, then there is no need to worry too much about it, as the official has provided players with a cheat - Lai Coin.

Attention, it's not vegetable coins, it's Lai coins.

Every time a player dies, they will receive a coin, which can be exchanged in the store for a shield that blocks damage.

I don't want to search the world for money anymore, I choose death! I don't want to continue fighting with the boss, I choose to die! As long as I die a lot, I will become stronger!

The production team stopped acting and instead used "dishes" as icons

Moreover, the Lai Coin system has a dedicated customer service "Lai Lai Zi" to connect with players. If a player dies too many times within a certain period of time, Lai Lai Zi will appear and offer more help in a gentle and patient (which may seem a bit sarcastic to players!) manner.

Of course, the amount of coins consumed by players will be recorded in the notebook.

I reflect, I am just a cabbage

Thank you, Cai Caizi. No, it's Lailaizi.

The road to finding relatives is long and arduous

Brave Huck tells the story of a family search journey. On the journey of searching for relatives, encountering various individuals with unique personalities, whether it's searching for clues or solving someone else's tricky problem, the story of the game also unfolds.

From the ruins at the beginning, to the small cities with a slightly sparsely populated area, and then crossing mountains and mountains, traversing tunnels and tall buildings. Huck's journey was long and he encountered many difficulties, but he never stopped walking.

During this period, there were also many interludes introducing Huck's past and why he traveled thousands of miles to find his brother Buck, which enriched the images of these two characters.

Huck, who has not yet put on a black hood

Its main storyline is quite clear, and it thoughtfully marks the destination directly on the map, making it possible to go straight to the target (even if you can't defeat the enemy, it's okay, there are coins anyway).

Although some scenes may seem a bit cumbersome, such as helping someone and asking me to find another person without informing them of the information, or having to gather XX items to advance the main storyline, the new plot can lead to new maps, which means we can continue exploring. This is not a bad thing for a galactic demon city like game.

When I spent more than ten hours, thinking that I had already figured out the game and eagerly went to challenge the final boss, I found that I had only "phased" understanding of the map - rashly challenging the boss would only lead to BAD ENDING, and there was a lot of content waiting for me to figure out and achieve the true ending.

This type of game requires more exploration and exploration.

In the absence of spoilers, I think the overall story is quite good, making people willing and able to smoothly advance the game's plot.

junction

Overall, Brave Huck is a very stable galactic demon city. It can arouse people's interest in exploration, with eye-catching artistic styles, as well as humorous and down-to-earth settings.

Returning to the question at the beginning, where exactly is Huck brave? This journey of crossing mountains and overcoming difficulties has already given the answer.

Friends who are interested in Galactic Devil City or those who enjoy this art style may want to personally experience Brave Huck. The game is priced at 58 yuan on Steam and Wegame platforms and has also been launched on the Switch platform. At the same time, as the official version has been launched, we are currently offering a 20% discount for a limited time of two weeks. The PC version can be purchased for less than 50 yuan.
