The "creative pillar" of the game is full of artistry and is presented through refurbished game mechanics, diverse color art, and deft decryption methods.

    You'll also find that the world of Super Mario Odyssey is full of peas you can kick, cans you can knock down, and drawings you can cut. The reason is simply that it has too much freedom. At a recent Nintendo event in New York, I got to play a demo of Super Mario Odyssey. It's not just the "pillars" of the game that make me happy, but also the little details that distract me.

    Banquet kingdom

    In order to cooperate with the publicity strategy, Nintendo's press conference has strict restrictions on the content of the screen. But this time I can still talk about the game, and it all starts with the opening animation of Odyssey.     The game naturally begins by introducing the mechanics of the game between "the hat that Mario talks to," and takes place on the hat's home planet.

    Next, we need to explore deeper in the game. The first world you enter is called "Banquet Kingdom," where the inhabitants are talking tableware. In the process of solving puzzles and running freely, we always have Mario trigger events or get items by throwing hats. When this is done, the controlled object immediately grows a mustache and produces a pair of blue eyes. With Mario in a refreshed state, he can proceed smoothly. When Mario uses the hat to control the new character, he will also add corresponding abilities, such as swimming in lava, breathing underwater, and stacking hats with his friends. In the banquet Kingdom, I was able to navigate the cliffs with the ability to acquire a fork.

    In this first chapter of the world, I focused on collecting the "purple Moon" marked on the map. In the Banquet Kingdom, these objects indicate that you have solved very basic puzzles such as "walking through lava" and "climbing to the top of a mountain". The whole world is a combination of traditional platform jumps and moderately difficult puzzles in 3D graphics and perspective.

    Narrative vs. gameplay

    The game seems to strike a balance between exploring the world, finding items and running around freely, controlling characters and having fun. In Far Cry or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a lot of friends never actually complete a mission with a messy design (just a little better than clicking Start). But Super Mario Odyssey does a good job of balancing tasks with degrees of freedom.

    Yes, the first thing I did in the party kingdom was to rush into the store and check the styles of coats and hats available for purchase. Of course, I've been kicking peas all over the road. It's not out of boredom or bad intentions, on the contrary, I just think why not do it? This is perhaps the first time Nintendo has tried to provide a wealth of skills and map elements to distract players from the linear storyline.

    Having discovered that the only way to reach the top of the mountain was to acquire the ability to fork, I brushed the brim of my hat gently with my hand and walked slowly along the cliff in the direction of black and white chess. Maybe walking in a straight line, the goal is only one step away from me.

    Breath of the Wild certainly lit me up, but it didn't succeed in engaging me in the story. Maybe that misses the point, but Breath of the Wild could do better here. More and more games are tilting towards more open worlds, and creators need to understand the "art of induction" rather than the "aesthetics of forced violence," allowing players to discover all that the game has to offer within a story.

    There are also Boss battles and mini-boss battles, and before we think about taking down increasingly powerful enemies, we have to survive!

    After 45 minutes of wandering around the party Kingdom, I left the big-screen TV and entered the new world from the console. A strange thing happened, the Switch's small screen didn't make me feel out of place, and I didn't even notice much of a change in fidelity. But when I switched back to the big-screen TV, I found that the graphics were much better.

    At the conference table, I started the Odyssey with the Switch on a slightly tilted stand. I move to another archive site, which is called Seaside.     The "Banquet Kingdom" is where we meet talking tableware, and the "seaside" is where we catch the azure sea creatures. The goldfish Nintendo named "Cheep Cheeps" is the most convenient tool for us to explore this level. We can move freely through the waterways without having to worry about the science of the lack of oxygen.

    You can control most objects with your hat, but not all enemies will follow your command. In my limited game time, I can't tell you exactly what can be controlled and what can't. But with a simple attempt, all the confusion will be solved. Moving freely across the seafloor like a Cheep Cheep, I soon discovered that electrocuted water plants could not be caught, but little black balls like squids could.

    Due to the length of the game, my exploration time in "Seaside" was not as abundant as that in "Banquet Kingdom". I even felt angry because it was impossible to explain such a rich strange card in the limited time. For example, I found the Sphinx (sphinx) lying in a deep sea cave, waiting for me to ask questions; Or in the water happened to hit the game in the mini-game - 2D platform game - 3D and 2D switch, hey hey, a little interesting.

    Photographic mode

    It was in the "By the Sea" world that I experienced the in-game camera mode. The player can stand still at any time and move the camera freely. After adjusting the filter and applying the sticker, we can save the picture. Since this is happening all the time, we tend to get a lot of shots of Mario's content. Many of the "Odyssey" screenshots circulating on the Internet are in-game saved images.

    There are various types of objects waiting to be collected and bosses waiting to be humiliated on the "beach", but because I've invested so much time in the game's 2D mode, taking photos and retouching images, and swimming around, these main lines are not covered much.     Super Mario Odyssey is an excellent game with a spirit of exploration and excellent 3D effects. During the time I spent with the game, I felt like I fell into a colorful, creative world full of cleverly designed puzzles and devices. The key is undoubtedly to "frustrate" others by "putting a hat" on them and controlling the character, a new way of interacting that makes Mario's connection to the world around him more interesting.
