Trial Report on "Sanfu": A Chinese horror game that catches the eye

Thank you Gamera Game for allowing me to get a trial of Sanfu in advance. Although the trial process was only about an hour long, I still saw the progress of this game compared to Fireworks in many aspects, as well as the highlights of the game. Next, I will try my best to discuss my trial experience of Sanfu without disrupting everyone's gaming experience.

The protagonist of the game, Xu Qingyuan, is a Taoist who was invited by his old colleague Shen Yanchuan to investigate a TV signal hijacking case that caused a stir in the local area. I was originally thinking that this kind of matter should be handed over to the TV station to investigate. Has the Taoist profession become so involved that they need to manage the TV signal?

A few years ago, the mysterious death of the "Three Eyes Child" who claimed to have special abilities turned the truth behind his identity and abilities into a mystery. After hijacking the signal, the prisoner played an advertisement endorsed by the three eyed child, which contained several sets of numbers that were not originally available, possibly a criminal warning left by the prisoner.

What's sinister is that strange things happen everywhere this advertisement is broadcasted, so many people start to suspect that the soul of the "Three Eyes Child" hijacked the TV signal and played this eerie TV advertisement.

The trial process this time is not long, and I don't want to expose everyone in the trial report. So let's stop at the plot and then talk about the two areas that impressed me during the trial.

Firstly, the multi protagonist system of this work. According to MR Moonlight Cockroach, I originally wanted to try switching between different characters at any time in Sanfu, but the actual workload was too heavy, and in the end, I switched characters in specific storylines.

Not only Xu Qingyuan was involved in the investigation of the "Three Eyes Child Incident", but Shen Yanchuan also arranged a helper for us, the newly appointed investigator Qiu Wu. Although he is a newcomer, Qiu Wu's acceptance of supernatural events is very high, which surprised our Taoist Xu.

At the same time, she is also a practical person. Participating in this investigation is not just to gain experience, but to search for the truth behind the incident with Xu Daochang. It's so reassuring to have such a person by my side when investigating supernatural events.

Don't be fooled by the addition of just one more actionable character, the addition of Qiu Wu has made the entire investigation process much smoother, without making players feel that the protagonist is a person with extremely rich inner activities and likes to talk to themselves. And the two individuals conduct investigations simultaneously, exchanging intelligence when problems are discovered, and even having completely different views on the same thing.

The second point is that the atmosphere of the game is very excellent. What players want in horror games is that sense of fear, but the source of fear can be sudden fright or something that makes people think deeply about it.

The former is when you reach out to touch something that you clearly feel is not right, and suddenly a ghostly hand grabs your wrist, which is Jumpscale; The latter is when you suddenly realize that something you are accustomed to is not right, but you can't say where the problem is, and by the time you realize the strangeness, it's already too late.

I personally prefer the feeling of contemplation and extreme fear, because Jumpscale means you don't know if your fear is an instinctive reaction or if you feel scared from the bottom of your heart. Even if there is no scary thing in the picture, it can make your spine feel cold. So I think horror games that can make players scare themselves are good horror games.

It is precisely because of this that I have such a high evaluation of Sanfu.

Let's first analyze the elements on the screen according to the scary thinking of general horror games: first, although the time is in the evening, the light is not very dark, and the scary point may be inside the dim door or the window on the first floor; The public phone is very concerning, but it has just rang, not the eerie voice of the phone in "Sadako"; I deliberately made the trees and railings in the distance of the picture, and something may suddenly move.

Actually, the fear here comes from that dog. When we were investigating or paying attention to those strange things in this scene, the dog didn't react much. When you get used to its existence and complete the decryption, it will bark at an empty place, telling you that something is wrong.

The scary aspects of "Sanfu" are often like the supernatural events that occur while watching commercial videos mentioned earlier, as well as the barking of dogs mentioned here.

You know that horror games are scary, and you always pay attention to places that may seem eerie or even scary, but in Sanfu, it's often the places you've become accustomed to that start to go wrong, which is a great way to deal with horror elements.

The ticket seller who refused to turn around didn't face you directly during the trial. Combining sound effects with a sudden turn of the head can complete a startle, but Sanfu is not designed in this way

In summary, the trial of "Sanfu" really exceeded my expectations. I originally thought that as long as it could reach a level similar to "Fireworks", this game would be successful, and a one hour trial would not show too many highlights. But whether it's the multi protagonist system or the overall atmosphere of the game, it gives me a refreshing feeling.

It can be said that this trial game is the best advertisement for "Sanfu". In the first chapter of the game, Xu Qingyuan and Qiu Wu officially met to discover the secret hidden in the video studio, and the first case of the "Three Eyes Child Incident" was discovered, which came to an end. I was shocked that the whole story unfolded in such a way. I wanted to know the development of the subsequent plot, which made me itch.
